The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is a non-profit organisation training surgeons and maintaining surgical standards in Australia and New Zealand. The College’s purpose is to be the unifying force for surgery in Australia and New Zealand, with FRACS standing for excellence in surgical care.
MicroMed International is also associated with the Dental School of Sydney. As Australia’s first dental school, the Faculty of Dentistry has been training dental practitioners for more than 100 years.
The faculty fosters research excellence, innovation and collaboration at the highest level, across the spectrum of basic science, clinical practice and population oral health. The particular focus is on the emerging priorities of chronic disease and ageing.
The John Fawcett Foundation (JFF) is a humanitarian not-for-profit organisation that assists needy people in Indonesia, particularly in the field of sight restoration and blindness prevention. It offers its assistance to people in the lower socio-economic group free of charge and without religious, political or ethnic consideration.
MicroMed International supports the John Fawcett Foundation by providing training & education to local medical staff to improve skills of medical staff.
MicroMed International supports the East Timor Eye Program by providing training & education to local medical staff to improve eye health services.
The East Timor Eye Program has been restoring eye sight and improving eye health in Timor Leste since the year 2000.
The Program is helping rebuild Timor Leste’s eye health services by training local doctors, eye care nurses and eye care technicians and providing outreach services to five districts.
The most common eye problems in Timor Leste, one of the world’s newest and poorest countries, are preventable or treatable. They include refractive error, cataract, vitamin A deficiency and trauma, all of which can cause significant visual impairment or blindness.
